The government wants “close” this sequence. Matignon announces, Wednesday October 4, that Elisabeth Borne will present “end of October” the answers that the government wishes to provide to the mayors of the cities most affected by the riots which engulfed the country at the end of June, after the death of Nahel, killed by a police officer.

Five hundred city councilors will be invited to this new presentation, according to Matignon, of “measures taken and those which will be worked on in depth with local elected officials”. Emmanuel Macron had already received, at the beginning of July, at the Elysée the mayors of more than 300 municipalities which had suffered significant damage. This announcement comes on the eve of a national refoundation council dedicated to this subject, bringing together around fifty personalities and which will be chaired by Elisabeth Borne. He is destined to “share the diagnosis and avenues for reflection” on the riots and “to think about the root causes” as well as to “political actions that can be taken in the short, medium, long term”.

Another body – the Interministerial Committee of Cities – will also be organized “by the end of October” in order to address fundamental issues, both in terms of housing, schooling and discrimination. The Minister Delegate in charge of Communities, Dominique Faure, also plans to invite to a “national convention of local democracy” to look into the status and violence against elected officials.
