In a deserted hemicycle following the adoption of a compromise on the immigration bill, Elisabeth Borne once again held the government accountable before the National Assembly, Tuesday, December 19, using article 49.3 of the Constitution with a view to the adoption in final reading of the entire budget bill for 2024, barring a motion of censure.
“Like last year, the oppositions remain on their position of principle: not to vote on the budget whatever its content,” lamented the Prime Minister to justify the 23rd use of this constitutional provision in her name since her arrival at Matignon. La France insoumise immediately announced the filing of a new motion of censure against a “austerity budget”. A few hours after the adoption of the motion to reject the text on immigration, the Prime Minister called for a 49.3 on the entire text in new reading, in the Assembly, last Saturday. The motion of censure by France Insoumise only received 75 votes out of the 289 needed to bring down the government.
