Elections Quebec 2022 | What to know about advance voting?

Between now and the election on October 3, it will be possible for Quebecers to cast their vote in advance up to eight days in advance, on September 25 and 26. Other voting options will also be offered over the next few days. Here’s what you need to know to navigate it.

Where can you vote in advance?

The address of your advance polling station as well as its opening days and hours are indicated on the notice of registration received by mail at the beginning of the election period. It is also possible to find out about it on the Elections Quebec website. All citizens are eligible for advance voting, provided they appear on the Quebec electoral list.

Additional days to those of the advance poll

In addition to election day and those scheduled for advance polling, five additional voting days are scheduled at the office of the returning officer:

  • September 23, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • September 24, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • September 27, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • September 28, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • September 29, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

You are studying

You can vote for one of the candidates in your riding directly at your post-secondary educational institution (CEGEPs, colleges and universities), if it has a polling station. It will be possible to do this on Friday, these polling stations opening ten days before the elections. Voting will continue next week, depending on each establishment’s schedule. Staff and any other voters there will also be able to use this method of voting.

You are outside Quebec

If you find yourself outside Quebec during the elections, whether for work or vacation, you can register to vote outside Quebec in order to vote by mail. However, the request had to be sent no later than September 14.

If you return to Québec later than expected without notifying Élections Québec, you will no longer be able to vote by mail as of the return date that you previously indicated in your application to register to vote outside Québec. From this date, you will have to vote in Quebec, in a polling station. If you return earlier than expected without notifying Élections Québec, your ballot will be sent to the address you provided in your initial request.

You cannot travel for health reasons

If you cannot move for health reasons, it is possible to vote from the comfort of your home. Simply contact your returning officer no later than September 19, 2022. You will then be advised of the day and time of the visit by the team responsible for your registration. If you are in isolation due to COVID-19 or if you are at risk of developing complications in the event of contamination with COVID-19 due to your state of health, you can also vote by mail.

You are in a CHSLD or in a private residence for seniors

Élections Québec teams will travel to CHSLDs and private seniors’ residences so that you do not have to go to another place to vote. You can vote in the common area, if a polling station is established there, or in your room. To vote from your chamber, you must contact the returning officer for your riding no later than September 19.
