Julien Bayou affair: EELV MP Sandrine Rousseau calls for “awareness of the systemic sexism that can exist in organizations”

(France 2)

Sandrine Rousseau, Europe Ecology Les Verts (EELV) MP from Paris, was the guest of “4 Vérités” on France 2, Thursday April 4.

MP Julien Bayou resigned from the Les Écologists – Europe Écologie Les Verts (EELV) party, but also from the ecologist party group in the National Assembly, Tuesday April 2. He is the target of a complaint from his ex-partner, who accuses him of “psychological violence”. “This relentlessness against me is disloyal and scandalous”denounced Julien Bayou in his resignation email sent to the party leaders.

“I would like to say that there are six women who spoke out in a first article in Reporterre, that since then, there has been a complaint filed”, underlines Sandrine Rousseau in “4 Vérités” on France 2, Thursday. The EELV deputy from Paris also notes “that the moral harassment in the couple was supplemented and aggravated by the suicide attempts, potentially, of one of the members of the couple”.

“The political party is not a meeting place”

“What I would like now in the MeToo movement is that we move from individual denunciations to awareness of the systemic sexism that can exist in organizations”asks Sandrine Rousseau. “This is what Judith Godrèche does in cinema. This is what I would like us to do in politics, because we cannot complain that there are not enough women politicians, and let it settle.”adds the MP.

“The political party is not a meeting place”affirms Sandrine Rousseau, regretting that “many women” leave political life “precisely because they have the feeling of being under the gaze and greed of certain people”.
