The regional elected officials, meeting in standing committee this Friday, February 18, voted aid of 1.2 million euros for studies to revive the former SAM site in Viviez. For several months, the Region has been carrying out reindustrialization work on the site of the foundry liquidated in December and on the Decazeville basin as a whole. This project is based in particular on the revival of a foundry in the premises of SAM and it is carried by the entrepreneur lotois Matthieu Hede, president of MH Industries whose flagship company is the Diace foundry in Vayrac. (The group also has Fin’Tech in Albi).
Conclusion of the study in the summer
In order to analyze the feasibility of the project and study the prospects for deployment outside the automotive sector, the Region is supporting the carrying out of studies to the tune of €1.2 million. The conclusions of the studies will be made in the summer. If the feasibility of the project is confirmed the activity could take as early as 2023.
On France Bleu Occitanie, this Wednesday, February 16, the minister of economy had also confirmed that it had also released a sum for studies carried out by a company in the Region. But Bruno Le Maire had shown himself much more cautious than Carole Delga considering not wanting to create “false hopes” for employees. He had not wanted to give the name of the company publicly to give more chances of succeeding to the projects.
The boss of the Diace foundry visited the SAM premises at the end of 2021. He could revive the Aveyron foundry around a project based mainly on cycles and railways. SAM employed 365 people and worked for Renault as its sole customer.
