In Échirolles, in Isère, the mayor ordered the evacuation of the Le Carrare residence for Friday, September 27. The cause was numerous malfunctions, particularly related to the damage, by dealers, to the building’s electrical panels. Angry, the owners of the residence invited the new Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, to come to the site. “Let him come to Échirolles to show us what he is capable of doing. That would be a good way to start his mandate.”says one of the owners whose anonymous testimony was obtained by France Bleu Isère.

This owner of four apartments in the building is also the head of the joint council of the 80 co-owners. “I am still in shock from the town hall’s announcement to evacuate the residence. My family and I invested. For example, my mother’s apartment rent is her pension and today, she has nothing left.” He said they still have to pay the bills and that according to his estimates, the electrical work will cost 70,000 euros. “For two years now we have had to constantly repair what the traffickers break for us.”

The Le Carrare building in Échirolles, located opposite the town hall, has become a major drug dealing point in the Grenoble area since 2021. Some co-owners have contacted their lawyers. “We are going to attack the State which has failed. How many times have we begged the prefecture to put two security agents in front of the drug dealing point, it has always been refused even though it might have allowed us to stop the trafficking”the owner denounces a “total impunity”.

On Friday morning, all the apartments will be evacuated and the building will be closed to allow the work to begin. It is expected to last three weeks. For his part, the Grenoble public prosecutor insists that he has not “We have not surrendered to the traffickers. Evacuating the building is part of the solution. At the same time, we are continuing to investigate the trafficking. We hope to eradicate this drug dealing point and give the residents back their homes so that they can lead a normal life.”
