Maguire made a birdie at 18and hole and concluded his day with a card of 65 (minus-7).
Alex gave a card of 66. The two players find themselves at minus-13.
Maguire had six birdies in a 10-hole streak on a bogey-free day.
Alex won the Portland Tournament in 2018, which remains his only title on the LPGA Tour.
Quebec’s Maude-Aimée Leblanc, who ranked sixth after Thursday’s first round with a 67, saw her tournament end with a 78.
Ontario’s Brooke M. Henderson has played 67 and sits 16andseven shots from the head.
