Two Ukrainian soldiers lost their lives in the conflict between Kiev and Moscow on Saturday February 19. Tension is rising in the Donbass, where some pro-Russian civilians are leaving the area, while others are preparing for clashes.
Teams from France Télévisions are on Saturday February 19 on the separatist side, on the border between Ukraine and Russia. Some residents take refuge on the other side, in Russia. “I’m afraid for my child. We heard the sound of the bombardments, we did our business and left”says a woman.
The separatist authorities have announced a mass evacuation of women, children and the elderly. Buses have been specially chartered. Donbass has already been at war for 8 years. The inhabitants who leave it do not panic, and mostly go to join friends or family. Others do the opposite. 100 km away, in Donetsk, loudspeakers are broadcasting safety advice. General mobilization has been announced.
