Donald Trump is expected to announce on Monday who will run for vice president of the United States if he is elected in November’s presidential election.

That’s what the former president said in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier on Monday morning.
Speculation has been rife for months about who the Republican candidate might nominate as his running mate for the election, given that his 2016 and 2020 campaign partner, Mike Pence, indicated in March that he would not endorse him this year.
The relationship between the two men soured following Mr. Pence’s criticism of the former president, particularly regarding the storming of the Capitol in January 2021.
Donald Trump has given little indication of who might fill that role in the 2024 election.
However, he said in May that his rival in this spring’s Republican primaries, Nikki Haley, would not be his running mate.
So here are some names that could end up on the ballot next to his in November:
Tim Scott
It’s no secret that Donald Trump likes the profile of Tim Scott, an African-American senator from South Carolina.
The former Republican president has never stopped praising the loyalty of the 50-year-old, a former contender for the White House. “You’re a much better candidate for me than you were for yourself,” he said again during a recent meeting.
With Tim Scott as his right-hand man, Donald Trump could hope to capture votes from black voters, who largely preferred Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
His detractors, however, accuse the senator of a lack of presence, particularly during debates.
Elise Stefanik
Arriving in Congress with moderate positions, Elise Stefanik, 39, has experienced a meteoric rise among Republicans, which can be explained by a single name: Donald Trump.
The New York elected official has embraced each of the billionaire’s crusades without hesitation, in return winning his good graces.
By choosing her as his running mate, Donald Trump could win over part of the female electorate, among whom his support is crumbling according to the polls.
But this absolute loyalty to the Republican candidate could also cool off the most moderate voters.
JD Vance
He has not always admired Donald Trump, something the former Republican president keeps telling him.
But be careful not to bury JD Vance, 39, too quickly.
This former military man, known for having published a best-selling book on white America, has only recently entered politics. And the profile of this senator from Ohio is already attractive in Republican circles, in particular thanks to his ability to raise large sums for his party.
The windfall is not insignificant in a country where political victories are won at the cost of billions of dollars.
Marco Rubio
Between Donald Trump and Marco Rubio, it hasn’t always been love at first sight either. The Florida senator was opposed to the real estate mogul in the 2016 Republican primaries, a race in which he openly mocked the size of Donald Trump’s hands and complexion.
But the two men appear to have since buried the hatchet.
Donald Trump knows that he will be able to take advantage of the profile of this 52-year-old elected official, who is very involved in geopolitical issues and who could attract valuable support from the Hispanic electorate.
However, a part of the hard right has never forgiven him for his migration reform project, presented more than ten years ago.
Other possible candidates
The names of North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Senator Rick Scott are also circulating, but their chances seem limited for the moment. As do those of entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, elected representative Byron Donalds, or former presenter Kari Lake.
