Domestic violence: Quebec helps police

The Government of Quebec announced on Monday the granting of financial assistance to eleven municipal police forces for the addition of specialized personnel in the fight against domestic violence and feminicide.

In a press release, the Minister of Public Security, Geneviève Guilbault, explains that the investments aim in particular to improve the care and support of victims by the police and to enhance the surveillance of people convicted of domestic violence at all levels. stages of the intervention continuum.

Government financial contributions total over $3.114 million over three years. They are granted to the police forces of L’Assomption / Saint-Sulpice, Blainville, Bromont, Châteauguay, Mascouche, Mercier, Repentigny, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Thetford Mines, the Régie Memphremagog Police Department and the Lac des Deux-Montagnes Police Board.

Minister Guilbault points out that these investments bring the current government’s investments in the fight against violence against women to more than $509 million. This includes the sum of $180 million dedicated in December 2020 to a prevention and victim security plan and an envelope of $222.9 million over five years for the implementation of priority actions.

A sum of $41 million was also recently allocated to the deployment by the end of 2023 of anti-reconciliation bracelets in Quebec.
