Charity has its international day and it’s September 5 ! This date was chosen by the UN in commemoration of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who died on September 5, 1997, who devoted her whole life to the poor, the sick and orphans. But does charity still exist? Who does it and how?
If the very term charity, which has a religious connotation, seems a bit dated, and today we speak more readily of volunteeringof solidarity and of philanthropy, the commitment to NGOs and associations in favor of the most disadvantaged and major causes (such as the defense of the environment) is very active. Thus, during the confinement, food aid for students has been put in place. The war in ukraine, since its launch in February 2022, have given rise to numerous actions to help Ukrainians on site and welcome them to France. This summer, the fires in Aquitaine, Brittany and the South have also given rise to numerous actions of solidarity and mutual aid.
To discuss these commitments and their developments, Geraldine Mayr receives Marion-Robertco-founder of La Fourmillière, a community that has made volunteering as fun as a drink with friends. She talks to us about her journey, how La Fourmillière was born and operates, and the new forms that charity takes today.
Maddy also intervenes during the program to testify to its commitment in favor of the Ukrainians, as well as several listeners and listeners, volunteers: everyone agrees that getting involved makes you happy.
