(Melbourne) Tennis legend Andre Agassi has estimated that Novak Djokovic, chasing a 25e unprecedented coronation in Grand Slam and an 11e title at the Australian Open, was undoubtedly the greatest player of all time, emphasizing that the numbers don’t lie.
“There are so many ways to look at it, but when you look at it on paper, you can’t argue with what he accomplished,” Agassi said in an interview with The Australian published on Sunday, about the 36-year-old Serbian, whom he trained with Radek Stepanek between 2017 and 2018.
“The number of victories, head-to-heads, titles, N.1 places at the end of the year, weeks spent in first place… all these statistics,” added the 53-year-old American.
Present in Melbourne to attend the Australian Open, the winner of eight Grand Slam tournaments and former world No.1, considers that Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have all brought a lot to the game.
“When I look at what people bring to sport, it [Djokovic] brought a lot, without a doubt,” underlines Agassi.
“Then you look at what Roger brought to the sport — the elegance, the class and the way he did it — and then Nadal, the intensity or the way of engaging in the game, all those guys gave another dimension to tennis. But on paper, I don’t think we can dispute what Novak did,” said Agassi.
