“An important message from the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General,” reads the brief notice that tops an official statement posted on Rideau Hall’s Twitter account late Tuesday afternoon.

“The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General (OSGG) is aware that incorrect information encouraging citizens to contact the Governor General or our office to submit ‘no confidence’ votes is circulating on social media,” we say.

“This information is incorrect. Such a registry or process does not exist,” the OSGG states in the royal blue background message.

A faction of the “freedom convoy” that paralyzed downtown Ottawa for 24 days arrived in the Canadian capital hoping to overthrow the government of Justin Trudeau. Canada Unity Group president James Bauder had drafted a memorandum of understanding [MOU en anglais] in order to achieve this.

The protocol in question provided for the establishment of a new government which would be led by himself, his wife, Sandra Bauder, another member of Canada Unity, Martin Brodmann, the Senate of Canada, as well as the Governor General, Mary Simon .

It was finally withdrawn on February 8.
