Desjardins will close 30% of service centers by the end of 2026

Desjardins Group will close 30% of its service centers and ATMs by December 31, 2026 with a view to continuing the digital transformation of its network.

TVA Nouvelles was able to confirm the information first revealed by The sun.

According to Desjardins spokesperson Jean-Benoît Turcotti, this decision was taken following the analysis of forecasts of members’ needs.

“Members increasingly want to interact with Desjardins via digital solutions. We must therefore find a balance between the evolution of our network of service centers and ATMs and the investments required in digital to continue to meet the needs of customer members,” explains Mr. Turcotti.

He states that as of December 31, 2023, the use of cashier counters only represents 1% of transactions, and counters, more than 3%.

Currently, Desjardins has 669 service centers and 1,559 ATMs in Quebec and Ontario. We therefore confirm that around 190 service centers will disappear within 3 years.

At this time, it is impossible to know which service centers and ATMs will be closed. It is the boards of directors of the funds which will make the decision.

“They are the ones who are best placed to make these decisions since they know the needs of their members and their communities,” specifies Jean-Benoît Turcotti.
