In Afghanistan, Pakistan, but also in several European countries, women continue to mobilize for their rights, Friday March 8, on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day.
In Afghanistan, women have been completely suppressed from public spaces since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Some continue to fight for their rights, but in private spaces, under fear of repression. In Karachi (Pakistan), women are trying to assert their place in the streets. A group learns to ride motorcycles: a rare scene in this conservative country. “If women can take care of the responsibilities of the home and earn a living, why can’t they drive a motorcycle?”questions Sana Kamran, member of “Rowdy riders”.
Students mobilized in Spain
In Europe, demonstrations took place in several countries, such as in Italy, where hundreds of people took to the streets to denounce violence or gender discrimination. In Spain, students were particularly mobilized on International Women’s Rights Day, Friday March 8. They demand an end to harassment and rape.
