Deconfinement: spa owners angry with the government

The owners of spas fulminate against the inconsistency of the decisions of the Legault government, while their establishments are not authorized to reopen in the wake of the relaxations decided on Tuesday.

Prime Minister François Legault mentioned an upcoming lifting of restrictions for gyms and spas, but without giving a specific date.

The Association québécoise des spas (AQS) finds it “inconceivable” that their industry, which carries more benefits than risks for the population, is falling through the cracks in Quebec’s deconfinement plans.

A decision all the more incomprehensible since establishments such as performance halls and arenas are authorized to receive up to 500 people, according to the organization.

“It is clear that the Premier of Quebec and the Minister of Health do not understand how our industry works. I send them an invitation. Come and visit our spa establishments, you will discover the nonsense of your decision, ”said Véronyque Tremblay, president and CEO of the AQS, in a press release on Tuesday.

The AQS maintains that spa owners can no longer bear the financial losses caused by recurring closures, when they have had to work hard to keep a booming industry “in survival”.

A recent survey revealed that 52% of AQS members lost more than $200,000 in a single month.
