Decline in hospitalizations continues in Quebec

The current wave of COVID-19 continues to recede in Quebec.

According to data published on Saturday by the Ministry of Health, the number of patients in hospitals due to the coronavirus rose from 2,143 to 2,081. There are 140 people in intensive care, thirteen less than the day before.

Only nine new deaths have been added to the death toll. We now deplore 13,693 deaths linked to COVID-19 since its appearance in Quebec.

The Ministry of Health also reports 1,870 new cases since the previous assessment. Authorities have identified 898,842 cases of infection since the start of the pandemic. However, the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority clienteles.

The average of new cases for the past seven days stands at 2,556, a drop of more than 16% from last Saturday.

The number of active outbreaks decreased from 1130 to 1128.

A total of 21,637 scans were performed on Friday. The positivity rate fell 2.3 percentage points to 8.7%.

No less than 25,040 doses of vaccine have been administered in the past 24 hours, including only 588 first doses to children aged 5 to 11 and 15,139 booster doses.

The percentage of people aged 5 and over who received a first dose is still around 91%. It is also reported that approximately 86% of the Quebec population received a second dose and that approximately 49% received a booster dose.
