Paris Saint-Germain were eliminated on Wednesday by Bayern Munich in the round of 16 of the Champions League, following two errors by Marco Verratti (0-2).
Paris Saint-Germain have reason to be frustrated. After a good first period, the capital club was eliminated by Bayern Munich on Wednesday March 8 in the knockout stages of the Champions League (0-1). The two Bavarian goals came from loss of ball from Marco Verratti, yet author of 45 good first minutes. Danilo remained solid until the end, while Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi were absent from the debates.
Gianluigi Donnarumma: 4.5/10
He can’t do anything about the goals of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (61st) and Serge Gnabry (90th). The Italian will not be at fault for the elimination of PSG this season in C1. A nice stop in front of Jamal Musiala (32nd) and another to avoid the correction on the shot from Alphonso Davies (90th +2).
Danilo Pereira: 7/10
He was the best Parisian player. The Portuguese multiplied clearances and good interventions, including one at the feet of Choupo-Moting (50th) while PSG still had hopes of qualifying.
Sergio Ramos: 4.5/10
He did not go far from reviving PSG with two headers from a corner, but the Spanish defender first stumbled on Yann Sommer (64th) before missing the target (82nd). Beyond these occasions, Ramos was much more feverish than going to the recovery, as in his duels.
Marquinhos: not rated
Uncertain after injuring his ribs on Saturday, the Parisian captain only held on for half an hour before giving way to Nordi Mukiele (35th). The latter remained himself only ten minutes on the lawn when he was also uncertain. Replaced by El Chadaille Bitshiabu (46th), who was able to get up to speed. Nothing obvious in these conditions for a 17-year-old player (5/10).
Ashraf Hakimi: 4.5/10
We hardly saw him offensively except for a lack of spontaneity in the Munich area (85th). He did his best to defend well against Alphonso Davies. A good pressing on Sommer which led to the huge opportunity for Vitinha (38th) and a loss of the ball which could have been expensive (50th).
Nuno Mendes: 5/10
Good and less good for the 20-year-old Portuguese side, who continues to learn at a very high level. A nice return to his area on a Bavarian counter (69th). He should certainly have preferred the strike to the pass to Messi (25th). Replaced by Juan Bernat (81st).
Marco Veratti: 3/10
His two ball losses, on the goals of Choupo-Moting (61st) and Gnabry (90th) ruined everything. In the first period, Verratti was the one who triggered the good Parisian pressing, which has long hampered the Munich residents. Then there are these two errors, those too many for PSG…
Vitinha: 3.5/10
His left foot strike not strong enough is likely to haunt his nights for a long time (38th). The goal was wide open for him, but Vitinha saw Matthijs de Ligt out his attempt. Still so unrecognizable compared to his good start to the season. Replaced by Hugo Ekitike (81st).
Fabian Ruiz: 4.5/10
An excellent first period with constant offensive and defensive activity… then a totally failed second half, with incomprehensible technical approximations. Replaced by Warren Zaire-Emery (76th).
Lionel Messi: 3/10
The Lionel Messi we don’t like to see. The Argentinian was never inspired, made mistakes in almost all his choices and seemed overwhelmed in intensity. Symbol of his failed match: this lack of spontaneity when he had a striking position that he loves (69th).
Kylian Mbappe: 3.5/10
The expected hero could never make a difference. Too often lonely, Mbappé suffered against a great Dayot Upamecano. A shot in the small net (19th), another in the arms of Sommer (67th). But not much more. Frustrating.
