Danse Danse unveils an ambitious season

Broadcaster Danse Danse on Wednesday unveiled the 15 shows for its next season, its biggest and most ambitious in a quarter century.


“This major program brings together on the stages of the Théâtre Maisonneuve, the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier and the Cinquième Salle small and large ensembles, prestigious international companies from Germany, Colombia, Italy, the Kingdom UK and the Netherlands with the biggest companies here,” the statement read.

Big names in contemporary dance like Akram Khan, Crystal Pite, Hofesh Shechter and Marie Chouinard are part of this 2023-2024 season.

In September, the JOAT International Street Dance Festival will take place in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles to celebrate street styles on stage. “This festival is driven by the culture of street dance and is an opportunity to discover African-American vernacular dances”, we are assured.

The 50e Jazz Ballets

Always at the start of the season, on the occasion of its 50e anniversary, Les Ballets Jazz Montréal and its new artistic director Alexandra Damiani, will propose Essence. This is an all-female triple program with works by Crystal Pite, Ausia Jones as well as Canadian choreographer Aszure Barton.

In November, Danse Danse will present a long-awaited new creation by Anne Plamondon, which will bring together “an energetic and fiery septet”. First associate artist of Place des Arts, Rhodnie Désir is also present with Symphony of heartsa large-scale show for 15 performers and 60 musicians from the Orchester Métropolitain, conducted by conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
