According to the Drug Observatory in France, cocaine consumption in France is exploding. One in ten adults have taken it at least once in their life, reveals their latest study. But contrary to appearances, the drug can be fatal from the first consumption, explains the doctor and journalist for France Télévisions, Damien Mascret.
“We are seeing more and more new synthetic drugs arriving on the market”explains the practitioner, who specifies that “some will give you a fatal overdose with very low doses”. And addiction is “a trap we don’t see coming”adds Damien Mascret, because “from the first dose, the pleasure circuit will be activated” in the brain, at the same time as “the one of memory”. Pleasure will therefore be recorded by the brain, which will gradually come to the end of “control” activated first. Therefore, little by little, “all other pleasures disappear”concludes the doctor.
