Cyclist Rohan Dennis, yellow jersey of the Tour de France, accused of the murder of his wife

It is a terrible drama which played out this Saturday December 30, 2023 in Australia, and which caused the death of the wife of cyclist Rohan Dennis. The sportsman, who has been retired for a year, is said to have unintentionally hit his wife and mother of his two children, a few meters from their home in Adelaide. Seriously injured, Melissa Hoskins was rushed to hospital, where she unfortunately did not manage to survive the injuries caused. According to several Australian media, Rohan Dennis was immediately indicted for “dangerous driving resulting in death”. Placed under arrest warrant, the father was released on bail. He is expected to be tried next March.

Aged 32, Melissa Hoskins was also a professional cyclist. In 2015, the young woman became team pursuit world champion, alongside Amy Cure, Ashlee Ankudinoff and Annette Edmondson. During her career, she had also obtained several silver medals, in numerous disciplines, including scratch. She also participated in the London 2012 Olympic Games. In May 2017, Melissa Hoskins and Rohan Dennis announced their engagement, before getting married a few months later, in February 2018. This same year, they will become parents of a first child, then a second will follow a few months later.

He faces several years in prison

The Dennis family lived between Australia, Spain and Andorra, where Melissa and Rohan owned houses located in Adelaide, Girona and La Massana respectively. Rohan Dennis, who will have to answer for allegedly causing “death by dangerous driving, careless driving and endangering the lives of others” next spring, announced a few weeks ago the intention to put an end to his international career, after learning that he was not selected for the Tour of Italy. During the latter, the thirty-year-old distinguished himself by winning four stages, including one at the 2015 Tour de Francewhich earned him the opportunity to wear the yellow jersey for a few days.
