Quebec agri-food giant Agropur has been the target of a cyberattack in recent days. Information from employees and business partners, both Canadian and American, has been affected, the cooperative confirms.
“We observed a computer incident in the last few days,” confirms Agropur’s director of strategic communications, Guillaume Bérubé: “It’s quite recent and it was limited to a portion of our online directories.”
Data and information related to employees and business partners of the cooperative were targeted. Owner of some thirty processing and distribution sites in North America, Agropur employs approximately 7,500 people.
“Our transactional systems were not affected and our operations were not affected,” he said.
The news was first reported by the IT specialist media, Bleeping ComputerGuillaume Bérubé indicates that this does not mean that the attack was carried out in the United States.
Agropur has contacted the organizations and employees whose information was exposed. All those whose data may have been affected by the incident have been notified.

Mr. Bérubé did not provide details on the extent of the attack, indicating that an internal investigation is currently underway “to assess the scope and nature of the incident.” External cybersecurity specialists are participating. “We have obviously notified the police authorities.”
“At this point, there have been no attempts to misuse the information that was collected by the hackers,” said Bérubé.
Was there a ransom demand? “I am not able to answer that question so as not to harm the investigation.”
