Cubs award three-year contract to Stroman

(Chicago) The Chicago Cubs awarded right-hander Marcus Stroman a three-year, $ 71 million contract on Wednesday.

Stroman was among the best starting pitchers remaining in the free agent cohort this year.

Stroman will pocket $ 25 million in each of the next two seasons. He has a player option for 2024, in the amount of US $ 21 million.

Stroman pitched for six years with Toronto, then for two years with the New York Mets.

On Wednesday, he tweeted that he can’t wait to pitch in front of one of the most passionate crowds in professional sports, praising Chicago’s sporting culture.

Last season, the Cubs posted one of the worst averages in major league baseball at 4.87.

Stroman tied a major in the majors making 33 starts in 2021. He was 10-13 and an average of 3.02.

Stroman was a star of the American in 2019, along with the Blue Jays. His overall record is 61-60, with an average of 3.63.
