[Critique] “Volume 2,” Zoo Baby

He wanted it more “danceable” and “sensual”, this new album, the one-man band behind the stage name of Zoo Baby, and it’s quite successful, at least on the first third of the album, d ‘All Night Long To Angela, which strangely reminds us of a BB ballad We listen to these songs over and over again and they become encrusted. Xavier Dufour-Thériault elegantly dresses his pieces with suave soul-disco violins and choirs (thank you Anna Frances Meyer, from Les Deuxluxes). But under these good refrains, the amber voice and the guitar of the group Gazoline badly hide their melancholy, even their taciturn mood, as Stefie Shock, of whom Zoo Baby is a bit of a groove-pop heir, could express it. The musician’s spiritual pen lends weight to the proposal, with some refreshing hints of self-mockery, for example on The Ghost Kick, one of the best of this album nicely produced, like the first, by Julien Mineau (Malajube). Quality pop song that deserves the attention of commercial radio, if it is still allowed to dream.
