Catalan composer Marina Herlop will come to Montreal on August 25 (starring at MUTEK) with the aura of one of the most exciting voices on the Spanish experimental scene. Trained in the classical piano, an ingredient as essential in her work as her voice – we will compare her approach to that of Björk on the album Medulla (2004) —, the musician offers a third album where electronic sound materials occupy more space. His shimmering voice, delicate but very assertive, gives wings to his swift and melodious compositions, despite the unpredictability of his rhythmic structures (on shaolin mantis, for example). From this captivating album emerges a carnal and luminous music embodied by the sound of the piano and the orchestrations of his voice cut, hatched, reassembled, sometimes ghostly, as one imagines to be the ruins of the Ukrainian city which gives its name to this very nice album.
