[Critique] “Paul Wranitzky, Symphonies”, Akamus

It will probably be necessary to seek this album somewhat, which appeared at the end of June, because, in Canada, Sony separates the classic releases into priority and “sharp”, the latter not being promoted and being treated as imports. This is the case for almost all Deutsche Harmonia Mundi titles, for example by L’Arte del Arco or Paul van Nevel. Even if “rare”, this novelty is nevertheless precious, because it relays and expands the contribution of the Akademie für alte Musik Berlin (Akamus) during the Festival de Lanaudière. It is in this album that the Akamus immortalized his interpretation with assumed warrior accents which revolutionizes the approach of Big Symphony for Peace by Paul Wranitzky (1756-1808). Besides the opening Oberonalso played in Lanaudière, we find a Symphony in D majorof 1799 and a “The Tempest” Symphony » in D minor, an autograph which would date from 1795 and which confirms this Haydnian style of ” Sturm und Drang widened and amplified, already noted in our characterization of this Viennese, of which this is the most eloquent portrait.
