[Critique] “Num2Num”, paddling pool | The duty

Multi-instrumentalist Agathe Dupéré presents Num2Num, the second EP of his solo musical project, paddling pool. Soaring rock melodies, a soft, almost spectral voice, and simple lyrics, but always very emomake up the magic formula of this mini-album which can be listened to on a loop — preferably in silence, at nightfall, to better hear each note, each chord. Num2Num is a consolatory disc in which one immerses oneself without restraint to find the necessary comfort in the chaos of an existential melancholy. Like cotton wool, the first track that opens the EP, is thus the exact description of the state of mind, of the very physical sensation, which wins over us through the sound experience. Sometimes tinged with grunge and pop punk, the set offered by paddling pool allows us to splash around and let ourselves float on the contemplation of our nostalgia. In summary, one could compare the paddling pool universe to a unique amalgamation of those of Safia Nolin and Sophia Bel, two artists with whom she also collaborates as a bass player.
