[Critique] «DOODOODOO», Improvisation | The duty

The release of the first album by the star-studded collective DOODOODOO —Lou-Adriane Cassidy, Hubert Lenoir, Alex Martel, drummer PE Beaudoin — is accompanied by the story of its gestation, which began in Japan in 2019, on the sidelines of one of the first sessions of recording of Lenoir’s latest album. Beaudoin in the improvising studio, Lenoir (and Félix Petit) manipulating live on the mixing console the fruit of the drummer’s inspiration. The rest of the story becomes incredible, but you have already grasped what is happening on these eight instrumental tracks: lots of drums, rock and distorted (the best effect on the cosmic ssandwich and doodoodoodoodoo in the middle of the album), interspersed with noisy and ambient moments (on shibuya and 03/19/06 finally). At best, think of the album as a study in rhythm and texture, a notebook of sonic ideas that, despite studio editing and calibration, doesn’t form a cohesive or articulated work.
