[Critique] “Angel Life”, Marilyne Léonard

Recruited by Audiogram after an appearance on the show The voicethe young author-composer-performer Marilyne Léonard offers a first business card presented as a mix tape, angel life. The musician thus adds her voice to those who, for some time now on the Quebec pop scene, claim influences from hip-hop, soul and R&B, without standing out from the cohort. In question, songs full of promise, but still very smooth. Let us recognize that he has a good ear for melodies, as those of Mirage and of In the crowd at the start of mix tape, the best of the eight it presents. We will also hang on when you speak, the most dynamic, which would however have benefited from a less chilly realization, as if its anemic bass testified to an embarrassment to take its place on the dance floor. The others are interchangeable, in their themes as in their groove, between song and soul-R&B. The voice, the presence, the talent are present, let’s give him time to gain experience.
