In Lyon, Grenoble (Isère) and Montpellier (Hérault), the most polluting vehicles have been banned from driving in low-emission zones since Monday January 1. The measure will soon be extended to several other cities.

From 1er January 2024, vehicles running on diesel, registered between 2001 and 2005, no longer have the right to circulate in the low-emission zones (ZFE) of eleven metropolises, including Lyon, Grenoble (Isère) and Strasbourg (Bas- Rhine). These are the vehicles benefiting from Crit’Air 4 stickers.
Marseille takes the lead
Gradually, Crit’Air 3 vehicles will be banned. The measure will take effect from 1er January 2025 in four metropolises. In Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), it will come into force next September. If some motorists deplore this decision, the deputy in charge of policy for the city of Marseille, Audrey Gatian, mentions a measure “logic” for improvement “air quality”. In 2025, the 43 largest cities will be affected by the introduction of these low-emission zones.
