One of the small companies in the shadow of the Olympic Games is based in Maine-et-Loire and was chosen to equip the buildings of the athletes’ village with its colored briquettes made from clay extracted from the quarries of the region.

The construction of buildings for the future Olympic village in Seine-Saint-Denis is a delight for small French businesses. The pink briquettes that cover the facades are made 300 kilometers away, in Maine-et-Loire. In total, the Rairies Montrieux brickyard creates 500,000 pieces for the Games. To obtain new shapes, molds were created especially at the request of the architects. “It’s a real challenge, because we had to manufacture in record time, the Olympics are in 2024”explains Arnaud Salmon, tooling manager.

20 employees hired

Thanks to this contract of 450,000 euros, the company was able to hire 20 employees in three years. “We are going to see the Games on TV. We know that we will see our products and I find it nice to be able to discover what we do in real life”, says Donifan who joined the box in July. This is a collective victory for all employees of the brickyard founded in 1910. “It’s a real plus in terms of image. This positions us on an emblematic project that allows us to shine in France and abroad”, explains Paul-Vincent Diquero, Rairies Montrieux export director. The company supports an entire village, like 1,500 SMEs working for the Olympic Games throughout France.
