The Sixth Wave continues to give Superior Court Judge Richard Grenier headaches.
After removing a first member of the jury before Easter due to testing positive for the virus, the judge who took just 12 members from the jury was forced to adjourn the trial for five days, taking advantage of the long public holiday due to a second case of COVID.
Since the maximum number of jurors authorized by the Criminal Code to hold a criminal trial is 10, the holding of the trial was hanging by a thread. Fortunately, the day after Easter, all 11 jurors had been able to resume his seat and no one else had been infected.
New infection
However, now a new juror has announced that he has caught COVID since the last day of the trial on Thursday. Tuesday morning, when the trial was to resume, the information was given to the 10 remaining jurors present in the room. The first decision was therefore to adjourn the trial until tomorrow to allow the infected person to return on Wednesday.
“Don’t be discouraged, don’t keep a bad image of justice,” said Judge Grenier before giving them an appointment tomorrow.
