Authorities reported a significant jump in deaths and hospitalizations related to COVID-19 on Wednesday.
The latest report shows 54 new deaths, 50 of which date back more than seven days. One of the deaths occurred in the last 24 hours and three two to seven days ago.
Since the start of the pandemic, 17,244 Quebecers have died as a result of the disease.
Hospitalizations also saw a sharp increase, with an increase of 42 patients. There are now 1,726 people hospitalized in connection with the disease, including 593 due to COVID-19.
The balance sheet is also somewhat heavier in intensive care, where 39 patients with the disease were treated, including 22 who are treated specifically for this reason. This represents an increase of six compared to the previous day.
More than 3,400 healthcare professionals were absent from work due to illness.
Authorities have also recorded 1,037 new cases of the disease, a figure that is up from the past few days. But remember that this data is incomplete, because the screening centers are reserved for priority clienteles. As for rapid tests, 113 Quebecers reported a positive test on Tuesday.
The positivity rate has also climbed to 9.9%, according to the Ministry of Health.
However, there is a rebound in the vaccination campaign. On Tuesday, 21,937 doses were administered, which is much higher than the figures for the past few days.
Currently, 27% of Quebecers aged 18 and over are up to date with their vaccinations, so they received a booster dose less than five months ago.
