The federal government will no longer impose PCR testing on fully vaccinated Canadian travelers returning home after short trips of less than 72 hours.
This measure will come into effect on November 30.
However, the PCR test will remain mandatory for trips over 72 hours.
This was announced by the Minister of Health, Jean-Yves Duclos, the Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra, and the Minister of Public Security, Marco Mendicino, at a press conference on Friday afternoon.
Canada’s border policy for short trips was heavily criticized.
Critics, including business leaders, politicians, members of the tourism industry and travelers, have complained that the requirement is expensive, cumbersome and redundant.
The rule was part of a decree that expires Sunday.
In addition, Canada is expanding the list of vaccines allowed to enter Canada.
Thus, people immunized by the Covaxin, Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines will be able to enter the country from November 30.
