The 34 additional deaths reported on Saturday bring the daily average calculated over seven days to 26. The trend is up 38% over one week.
The drop of 39 hospitalizations brings the total number of people hospitalized to 2,371, an increase of 11% over seven days.
In intensive care, there is one more patient than on Friday, but the 89 patients in all represent a drop of 15% over one week.
Note: 43% of patients with COVID-19 currently hospitalized (989 people) were admitted due to the coronavirus. Conversely, 57% of patients were hospitalized for another reason but tested positive for COVID-19. In intensive care, 65% of patients are admitted due to COVID-19, and 35% for another reason.
The number of people in hospital is likely to continue to rise in the coming days, with the number of admissions continuing to exceed discharges. Over a week, the trend is on average 34 more patients each day.
The 2,101 new cases reported on Saturday bring the daily average to 2,152. The trend is thus down 25% over seven days. These figures likely reflect only a portion of total infections, due to limited access to PCR screening tests.
Meanwhile, the vaccination campaign continues to pick up speed. Quebec currently administers an average of 28,000 doses of vaccine per day, mainly fourth doses. To date, 86.8% of Quebecers have received at least one dose, but only 51.2% have obtained three. And 7.1% of Quebecers received four doses, mainly people aged 60 and over.
