COVID-19: decline in cases around the world

Almost every country in the world has a virus reproduction rate below 1, which means the virus is losing ground everywhere.

The number of new coronavirus victims worldwide fell last week for a third week in a row.

Declines of 10% to 20% in the number of new cases have been recorded by the WHO since mid-February.

Only the Western Pacific reported an increase (+32%) in the number of new weekly cases last week. This new pandemic outbreak mainly concerns countries which, by isolating themselves since March 2020, had been able to keep the contagion at a very low level so far.

Otherwise, all other regions reported a decline in the pandemic, including the Eastern Mediterranean (-34%), the Americas (-30%), the African continent (-25%), the European Region (-24 %) and Southeast Asia (-16%).
