The Courtepaille restaurants are up for sale again, just two years after they were taken over. The end of a model that was born in 1961, and was at the time revolutionary, with its kitchen installed in the middle.

Only two years after their takeover, the Courtepaille restaurants are back on sale. Acquired in 2020 for 17 million euros, the historic brand is no longer successful. In Brétigny-sur-Orge (Essonne), habits are there. “I really like the idea of ​​the fireplace in the dining room”, confides a client. Stephanie has been frequenting the restaurant for 40 years. “When I was little, we came almost every week. I always left with my little plastic house”she recalls.

220 restaurants and 2,000 employees

Founded in 1961, Courtepaille has marked several generations of French people, with simple cuisine and a family atmosphere. The restaurant offers grilled meats and pieces of meat to share, from a kitchen set up among the customers. The model ran out of steam in the 2000s. Despite the brand’s notoriety, attendance fell by 25% compared to 2019. The future is today uncertain for the 220 restaurants of the brand, which employ more of 2,000 employees.
