In Corsica, the violence continues after the attack on Yvan Colonna in prison. New clashes erupted last night, Tuesday, March 8. The inmate is still in critical condition. To calm the situation, Prime Minister Jean Castex lifted his status as a particularly reported detainee.

On the evening of March 8, in the heart of Ajaccio (Corse-du-Sud), an urban guerrilla scene took place in the streets. Faced with the police who protect the prefecture, demonstrators throw Molotov cocktails. The CRS respond with defense ball launchers. Assessment after the restless evening: 17 injured, including 2 among the police. “What we tell them is to demonstrate without exposing themselves to any risk to their health, to their physical integrity, it is imperative that there are no more injuries”declares Gilles Simeoni, President of the Executive Council of Corsica.

Yvan Colonna is no longer a particularly flagged prisoner. Prime Minister Jean Castex lifted this status yesterday evening given his state of health, still between life and death. The decision is deemed too late for the detainee’s family and his lawyers. It comes a week after his assault in prison by a jihadist convicted of terrorism. Corsica is still under tension. Rallies were organized provoking numerous clashes.
