In Polynesia, the month of November is the period when some corals spawn. However, global warming could have effects on their reproduction.

It is a special spectacle that takes place in the seabed of Polynesia. Indeed, the water is cloudy, this means that the corals are reproducing. This phenomenon does not happen by chance since it takes place precisely five days after the full moon between 6:15 am and 45 am, from October to April. However, in 2022, coral reproduction is less important. “Since the water temperature is still really cool, (…) it’s interesting to see that this month, it’s been a rather weak spawning”decrypted Vetea Liaomember of the Association “Children of the Lagoon”.

Vetea Liao is not the only one interested in corals since he is accompanied by college students who have been training on the subject for a year. “Every year they are more and more in danger and the corals are a home for the fish. So if the corals are in danger, the fish are also in danger”indicates Yann Zumbiehla middle school student. After observing these corals, solutions could be found to protect them.
