While prices have peaked and calls for sobriety have multiplied, energy consumption has fallen in France in recent weeks.

The message seems to have got across. The efforts of businesses and individuals have led to a drop in energy consumption. -14% for gas since August, -5% for electricity compared to 2019. Strategic choices made in particular by agrifood giants who opt for better management of energy consumption. Measures also taken by the smallest companies. “Replacing all our bulbs with LEDs allowed us to reduce the bill on lighting expenses”underlines Enzo Pasquini, human resources manager at Bizon.

Individuals also contributed to this drop in consumption. “I turn on the heating as late as possible, usually it was already on [à cette période]but there, it’s not too cold, we’re lucky”, says a passerby. Lower price-constrained spending in industry. Arc, specialized in glass, has reduced its production and Duralex shut down its factory. Other companies could be forced to drastically reduce their production in the coming months.
