Construction | Quebec announces measures to match workforce and employers

(Quebec) Quebec does not want to escape any of the new construction workers trained at high prices.

The government announced Thursday the implementation of measures to ensure that employers are matched with the newly trained workforce as part of the Construction Training Offensive so that they quickly integrate into the job market.

Since Thursday, employers can now hire students who complete these short-term accelerated training courses in the carpenter, tinsmith, refrigeration worker, heavy equipment operator and mechanical excavator operator trades.

The Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) will communicate with employers in particular to inform them on ways to approach the future workforce.

She has also created a page entitled “je choseislaconstruction”: it will indicate, among other things, the procedure to follow to obtain an apprentice competency certificate.

The Minister of Labor, Jean Boulet, announced the new measures in a construction trades school in Quebec.

These measures are part of the Construction Training Offensive, which was launched last October, to meet the glaring labor needs in the field.

People registered in the four accelerated training courses offered receive $750 per week and obtain a Certificate of Professional Studies (AEP) at the end of their course.

Then, it is the CCQ which will issue them an “apprentice competency certificate”.

This is a new access route to the construction trades created last fall.

The best known paths to entering the construction industry are obtaining a Diploma of Professional Studies (regular training, therefore longer than that of an AEP), as well as opening hand pools -labor, when there is a lack of workers in a trade or occupation in a given region.
