As she had already suggested, the Conservative MP Claire Samson, the only representative of her party in the National Assembly, already has her “retirement plan”. She will not participate in the elections next fall.
The elected Iberville confirmed the information first reported by the Journal of Quebec, Thursday. The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ), led by Éric Duhaime, will therefore not be able to count on its only member in the October poll.
“It’s still my plan to retire,” Ms. Samson wrote to the Duty, Thursday, using almost word for word the terms she had already spoken at the time of her first press briefing as elected Conservative, in June.
“It has been two years since the [Coalition avenir Québec] is aware that I did not intend to represent myself in 2022, then said the former member of the party of François Legault. My retirement plan is done. I will be 67 years old by the time of the next election. “
Thursday, its leader, Eric Duhaime, indicated that he knew “that [Mme Samson] would not be a candidate in the next election even before she joins [les] ranks ”.
Elected in 2014 under the CAQ banner, then re-elected in 2018, Claire Samson was excluded from her caucus last year, after giving $ 100 in donations to the PCQ. A few days later, she became a Conservative defector.
As a CAQ member, she is notably known for having signed a report on the francization of newcomers in 2016. After being refused a position in the first Council of Ministers of François Legault, in 2018, she has repeatedly asserted her dissatisfaction.
