Congratulations to the committed students and dedicated staff

I have always conceived of school as a place where general culture comes before my course.

Besides, I never saw my course as an end. Only as a means at my disposal to know my students, to see them grow and evolve. To help them move from the end of their “idiolescence” to the age of autonomous and responsible young adults…

It is with great pride that I see or hear about my former students. Not because they are doctors, engineers, teachers, waiters, joint shooters, nurses, artists or anything else.

No.

It’s because I remember the teenagers they were. An individual is not defined by what he does as a job, but by what he is.

On this side, I would like to thank them. They do a lot for me. I learn every year. This is one of the reasons that make a teacher a lifelong learner.

Engaged students

I recently accompanied my daughter to her high school merit gala. A great evening for dozens of students who distinguished themselves in their respective categories.

Even if the dad in me was proud to be there, there is a moment that came to get me as a teacher: the organizers highlighted the efforts of hundreds of absentees.

Not just with words.

With a video on what it means to be committed to your academic success.

I thus learned that 875 certificates of recognition “student engaged in his academic success” were given, before the holding of the gala, to the deserving students of the school.

Congratulations to all Quebec students committed to their success!

And who says committed student often says parents present. While it is generally true that parental involvement is associated with greater achievement, more specifically it is the involvement of parents at home and in quality relationships with their children’s teachers that truly make a difference.

Dedicated staff

When we talk about people in the field, we are referring to those who work in our schools. Four employment groups must work in synergy for the success of our young people.

Thanks to the support staff. Indispensable employees who often work behind the scenes: janitors, secretaries, special education technicians, student supervisors, attendants for handicapped students, daycare workers, practical work technicians, etc.

Thanks to the professional staff. Actors who contribute to the development and success of students: psychologists, speech therapists, psychoeducators, remedial teachers, educational advisers, guidance counsellors, etc.

Thank you to the principals and vice-principals who work tirelessly to promote and mobilize their teams in order to respond as adequately as possible to the needs and strengths of our students.

Thanks to the teachers. You share your life with dozens or hundreds of students. Your contribution is essential to building the future of our society.

I wish you a nice summer!
