Wednesday, September 21, Vladimir Putin announced the partial mobilization in Russia. Since then, protests have erupted in major cities across the country and some men are seeking to flee Russia.
In the most famous street of Moscow (Russia), dozens of demonstrators gathered to shout “no to war”, Wednesday evening September 21. This reaction comes following the announcement of partial mobilization by Vladimir Putin. Unsurprisingly, the demonstrators were quickly taken away by the police. A mother is desperate: “I came because I have children. I have boys, I don’t want them to go to war”, she laments. 1,300 people were arrested, according to a Russian association.
Thursday, September 22, the Russian authorities claimed that 10,000 people volunteered during the day. However, tangible signs that the concern of the population has increased a notch are perceptible. On the Internet, two expressions have peaked on Russian search engines: “how to break your arm?” and “how to flee the country?”. In addition, as soon as the mobilization was announced, there were no more plane tickets available to countries where Russian nationals do not need visas.
