Hervé Marseille, senator for Hauts-de-Seine, president of the Union Centriste group in the Senate and president of the UDI, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Saturday September 21, 2024. Composition of the new government, its lifespan… He answered questions from Bérengère Bonte and Hadrien Bect.
Government: Prime Minister “has a free hand”
“It is normal that the President of the Republic is attentive to the composition of the government”believes Hervé Marseille. While Michel Barnier transmitted a “finalized” list of names to the head of state on Friday evening, the senator from Hauts-de-Seine assures that“to his knowledge”Emmanuel Macron did not veto or insistently suggest names. “The Prime Minister said it when he brought us together, ‘I have a free hand'”adds Hervé Marseille.
Government lifespan: “we must find a parliamentary base”
Herve Marseille “hope” the appointment of a government this Saturday or Sunday, with the presence of a UDI minister, the deputy of the North Valérie Létard, expected to join a ministry. While personalities known to be very right-wing like the Republicans Bruno Retailleau and Laurence Garnier are expected to join the Interior and Family, Hervé Marseille recalls that “the political line will be that of the government” and that despite “the individual position of each”there will be “compromises”.
Asked about the ability of this government to last, the president of the UDI recalled that without a majority “We must find a parliamentary basis” with “all those who made Yaël Braun-Pivet elected” at the perch of the National Assembly.
