The Guides de France make you relive the history of the Cannes Film Festival, which brings the Croisette to life every year!
It was in the 1930s that the idea of a festival dedicated to cinema emerged in the minds of French leaders. It is true that France was a pioneer country in the invention and development of the 7th art, with Louis Lumière and Léon Gaumont.
The Popular Front, with Jean Zay, put the idea back on the table and, in September 1939, Cannes hosted its first festival, which was disrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War. The Cannes Film Festival is then interrupted.
Once peace is restored, the festival resumes and, year after year, it gains in notoriety and in audience until it becomes one of the unmissable events for film professionals from all over the world.
Among the films having received the Palme d’Or, several have made a milestone in the history of cinema such as “Union Pacific”, by Cecil B. de Mille, “Pulp Fiction”, by Quentin Tarantino or even “Taxi Driver” by Martin Scorsese.
