Colomiers rugby hit hard Thursday evening at the Michel-Bendichou stadium, opening the 19th day of Pro D2. Victory at home (29-17) against the leader Oyonnax, undefeated for ten matches. Colomiers led 26-3 at the break. Thanks in particular to two tries by Georgian prop Beka Sheklashvili (25th) and Fijian winger Peni Rokoduguni two minutes later (27th), converted by gunner Thomas Girard. Oyonnax negotiated the second half better, scoring in turn two tries by the New Zealand 3rd line Rory Grice (52nd) and the Portuguese center Pedro Bettencourt (71st) and transformed by Jules Soulan. But the reaction was insufficient to catch up, especially as Colomiers scored three last points through the boot of Girard (76th).
“The victory is just beautiful. The players have to enjoy and understand that by working hard, you can experience these kinds of emotions”, reacted Julien Sarraute, responsible for the front three-quarters, in a post-match press conference. “We had a very good first half with a lot of intensity and initiative. We started very well to take the score”declared the opening half Romuald Seguy.
Colomiers is provisionally 4th in Pro D2. Montauban is 6th, after his heavy defeat in Carcasonne (31-6).
