Coastal erosion: discover the list of municipalities in New Aquitaine placed under surveillance

Guest of France Bleu Gironde this Friday morning, the Minister for Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili detailed the measures to help municipalities deal with coastal erosion, contained in the Climate & Resilience law, adopted last August in Parliament. The objective is to make the right arrangements in the communes of France most exposed to the retreat of the coastline. 46 coastal municipalities of New Aquitaine could be concerned, discover the list.

Note that this list is provisional, it is still under study, the final list will be published by decree. Between 200 and 300 municipalities could be affected in France.

These municipalities will have to produce a map of the areas exposed to the retreat of the coastline. The State will help them financially and technically to produce these maps. These cards will make it possible to inform those who buy or rent in these municipalities of the potential risks. Then, the State, in particular the public land establishments, and the municipalities will have to use urban planning tools to develop their territory: plan for the disappearance of exposed assets and, if necessary, develop new sectors.

The public authorities will have a right of first refusal and will be able, thanks to what is called a “real lease for adaptation to climate change”, to allow an activity which could last a few years or even a few decades and whose rent will finance the future demolition of the site.
