France had decided to ban coal, which contributes to global warming, but serves as backup energy. The Saint-Avold power plant, in Moselle, which is due to close at the end of the month, is running at full capacity diet, surpassing its production records.

Since the start of the year, the Saint-Avold power plant (Moselle) working at full speed, called for help to overcome the shutdown of several nuclear reactors. However, at the end of March, the plant will definitively close its doors. In the meantime, it produces 600 megawatts, the maximum. This winter, faced with fears of a power shortage, a decree authorized the plant to operate for 1,600 hours, well beyond the planned 700 hours. “I don’t really understand, especially since we thought we weren’t going to shoot there anymore”says Thierry Keller, head of block.

Urgently ordered fuel trucks are still arriving at the plant. In 2020, it was decided to stop it, because theCoal is harmful to the environment. In the future, the site should producegreen energy or betting on hydrogen. Projects that are not yet concrete, which worries unions and employees.
