Closures of schools, roads, road and public transport difficulties: what you need to know about the snowstorm

A first snowstorm hit Quebec on Monday, forcing many school service centers to close their schools in several regions. Road traffic is also difficult as snow accumulates and visibility is reduced in places.

Environment Canada has published winter storm warnings for various regions including Outaouais, Lanaudière, Laurentides, Mauricie, Lac Saint-Jean, Quebec region, Beauce and Côte-Nord. Freezing rain alerts are also in effect for the south of the province, including the Montreal region. Later, the temperature should increase and the ice should give way to rain in more southerly areas during the day. However, the cold must resume service later during the next night.

Road condition:

The Sûreté du Québec reported several clashes and difficult traffic on the highways in the greater Montreal area. Freezing rain also started to make driving even more difficult.

Québec 511 reports congestion, numerous clashes and road exits in various places. You can follow the alerts for the regions of Montreal and Quebec via its Twitter accounts (For Montreal and Quebec / Levis).

However, no major accident was reported early in the morning.

Transportation companies from Montreal, Laval and Quebec City, in particular, invite you to plan your trips and check schedules.

Schools:

Regarding the situation of schools, the list of closed establishments is well stocked, particularly in the regions of the Capitale-Nationale, Mauricie, Laurentides, Côte-Nord, Lac-Saint-Jean, Beauce and Bois-Francs.

Power outages:

Some outages are in progress on the Hydro-Quebec network.

At airports:

At Montréal-Trudeau airport, some flights are delayed or canceled. The situation is the same at Jean-Lesage International Airport in Quebec.
